February hoopla Happenings

Library patrons who use hoopla have a lot to be excited about this month.

February marks the first 2023 availability of Bonus Borrows! This means there are hundreds of titles available (in audiobook, eBook, comics, movies, and television) to patrons without using any of their monthly Instant borrows, and free for libraries as well. This promotion lasts all month, so encourage patrons to take advantage—it’s a perfect opportunity to try something different, or to enjoy more of what they love.

It also brings with it a new Spotlight Selection for the hoopla Graphic Novel Book Club! This quarter we’re reading Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – The Last Ronin, written by TMNT cocreators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. Set in a post-apocalyptic New York City, one surviving Turtle fights a seemingly unwinnable battle against an entire army. It’s a fitting, satisfying swan song for the beloved series, and we hope you’ll read along with us. Find everything you need to host your book club meeting on our Graphic Novel Book Club Hub, including a fantastic Q&A with Kevin Eastman.

Finally, we have several new additions to hoopla BingePass that are specifically for kids. With these new collections (The Reading Corner, Growing Up: Social-Emotional Learning for Kids, STEAM Powered Kids, Learn About the World: People, Places, and Holidays, and Cuentos para niños en español), little ones and their grown-ups have plenty of great options to engage with entertaining content that helps them to learn and grow. And with BingePass, an entire collection is available for seven days with just one hoopla Instant borrow.

And of course, this is all in addition to a new batch of Movies of the Month and all the hundreds of thousands of titles that are instantly available on hoopla for patrons to borrow and enjoy. Kids’ Takeover on hoopla!

It’s always hard to kids entertained during the summer. This year, COVID-19 has expanded the issue by putting plans for schools into flux for the fall. Fortunately, hoopla is here to help! Our content experts have put together great, comprehensive collections of media your young patrons will love, in video, music, audiobooks, eBooks, and comics. And, of course, with hoopla’s Kids Mode, little ones and their caregivers can browse even more family-friendly content that will engage their attention and help to expand their minds. Visit our Resource Center for files you can use on your library’s social media pages to remind patrons of these awesome collections for kids, or print and display in your library or distribute with curbside pickup materials.

Kids Can Find Easter Treats on hoopla!

Easter celebrations may look a little different this year. There may be no church services, no big family gatherings, and no free-for-all egg hunts in the yard or the park. But different doesn’t have to be a bad thing. hoopla’s content experts have put together collections of audiobooks, eBooks, and videos for children that celebrate Easter, allowing them to explore both the fun of the holiday and the meaning behind it. Kids can borrow these titles on Easter Sunday or anytime and enjoy them on phones, tablets, computers, or TVs with a hoopla-connected device.

And just as a reminder, hoopla has plenty of other kid-friendly content that’s perfect for homeschooling activities and all sorts of crafting and industrious fun. Be sure to let patrons know that hoopla is always available during this time of social distancing with social media assets you can access on our Resource Center. And with our Bonus Borrows collection, a number of top hoopla titles are available at no cost to libraries and with no borrow cost to patrons.

Christmas for Kids!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is coming, and hoopla makes it easy for little ones to experience the magic of the season—either with their family or on their own! There are movies and shows to watch by the fire with cups of hot cocoa, comics, eBooks, and audiobooks perfect for bedtime or anytime, music that will have kids singing along, and so much more. And don’t forget, with Kids Mode, young patrons can explore the titles on hoopla that are just right for them. On the hoopla Resource Center, we’ve provided graphics you can print and display around your library, as well as images you can use on your social media pages, to let everyone know about the great Christmas content hoopla has available to make the season merry and bright.
