February hoopla Happenings

Library patrons who use hoopla have a lot to be excited about this month.

February marks the first 2023 availability of Bonus Borrows! This means there are hundreds of titles available (in audiobook, eBook, comics, movies, and television) to patrons without using any of their monthly Instant borrows, and free for libraries as well. This promotion lasts all month, so encourage patrons to take advantage—it’s a perfect opportunity to try something different, or to enjoy more of what they love.

It also brings with it a new Spotlight Selection for the hoopla Graphic Novel Book Club! This quarter we’re reading Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – The Last Ronin, written by TMNT cocreators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. Set in a post-apocalyptic New York City, one surviving Turtle fights a seemingly unwinnable battle against an entire army. It’s a fitting, satisfying swan song for the beloved series, and we hope you’ll read along with us. Finally, we have several new additions to hoopla BingePass that are specifically for kids. With these new collections (The Reading Corner, Growing Up: Social-Emotional Learning for Kids, STEAM Powered Kids, Learn About the World: People, Places, and Holidays, and Cuentos para niños en español), little ones and their grown-ups have plenty of great options to engage with entertaining content that helps them to learn and grow. And with BingePass, an entire collection is available for seven days with just one hoopla Instant borrow.

And of course, this is all in addition to a new batch of Movies of the Month and all the hundreds of thousands of titles that are instantly available on hoopla for patrons to borrow and enjoy. Current Magazines Now Available on hoopla!

Last week we announced the launch of BingePass, a new hoopla program that offers patrons unlimited use of content collections for a period of time with just one Instant borrow. Now let’s take a look at one of our initial BingePass offerings: hoopla Magazines!

With hoopla Magazines, patrons can read current issues of more than 50 popular periodicals. There are titles for all ages and interests, including such magazines as Elle, Golf Magazine, Popular Mechanics, Time for Kids, and many more. Each issue is designed specifically for digital use, so whether in the app or through a browser, it’s easy to swipe through and enjoy the articles and images just like you were holding the actual magazine. There’s even an option to easily listen to an audio version of each article.

One Instant borrow grants patrons access to all the great hoopla Magazines content for a period of seven days. Users can view a list of all magazines included before they decide to borrow, and once they do, they can enjoy one article or read all 50+ magazines cover to cover. One borrow is all it takes! And the current lineup is just the beginning—the number of titles available will grow over time.

So spread the word! On the hoopla Resource Center you’ll find images perfect for use on your library’s social media channels to let your patrons know about hoopla Magazines. This is one of two BingePass offerings available now for users to enjoy, with more to come in 2022!

Introducing BingePass!

hoopla digital is thrilled to announce BingePass! This new offering provides users with 7 days of unlimited access to collections of streaming content—all for one Instant borrow!

At launch, hoopla BingePass includes two great collections. hoopla Magazines offers access to current issues of many popular, in-demand magazines like Cosmopolitan, Esquire, Reader’s Digest, Sports Illustrated for Kids, and many more. The hoopla Magazines experience is designed specifically for digital use, so navigation is simple—you can even play an audio track of every article using the Listen feature. And the Great Courses Library Collection features more than 300 in-depth educational courses in a broad range of topics, taught by world-class instructors, and curated specifically for libraries and their patrons. With BingePass, hoopla users can immerse themselves in a full course, or sample lectures from any number of different courses.

Both of these collections are available NOW on the hoopla digital app or via the hoopladigital.com website. We have big plans for BingePass, so you and your patrons can look forward to even more great content coming your way in 2022 and beyond. First up will be Curiosity Stream early in the New Year, offering thousands of original and curated documentaries covering subjects in history, science, society, and more. Beyond that, we envision content like interactive videos, children’s media, reference materials—the possibilities are endless!
