What's New

February hoopla Happenings

Library patrons who use hoopla have a lot to be excited about this month.

February marks the first 2023 availability of Bonus Borrows! This means there are hundreds of titles available (in audiobook, eBook, comics, movies, and television) to patrons without using any of their monthly Instant borrows, and free for libraries as well. This promotion lasts all month, so encourage patrons to take advantage—it’s a perfect opportunity to try something different, or to enjoy more of what they love.

It also brings with it a new Spotlight Selection for the hoopla Graphic Novel Book Club! This quarter we’re reading Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – The Last Ronin, written by TMNT cocreators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. Set in a post-apocalyptic New York City, one surviving Turtle fights a seemingly unwinnable battle against an entire army. It’s a fitting, satisfying swan song for the beloved series, and we hope you’ll read along with us. Find everything you need to host your book club meeting on our Graphic Novel Book Club Hub, including a fantastic Q&A with Kevin Eastman.

Finally, we have several new additions to hoopla BingePass that are specifically for kids. With these new collections (The Reading Corner, Growing Up: Social-Emotional Learning for Kids, STEAM Powered Kids, Learn About the World: People, Places, and Holidays, and Cuentos para niños en español), little ones and their grown-ups have plenty of great options to engage with entertaining content that helps them to learn and grow. And with BingePass, an entire collection is available for seven days with just one hoopla Instant borrow.

And of course, this is all in addition to a new batch of Movies of the Month and all the hundreds of thousands of titles that are instantly available on hoopla for patrons to borrow and enjoy. To help you spread the word, we’ve put together social media assets and other materials available for you to download from the hoopla Resource Center.

May on hoopla: Bonus Borrows and Graphic Novel Book Club

April showers may bring May flowers, but May brings its own delights on hoopla. First up is the return of our popular Bonus Borrows program! For the entire month, patrons can browse and borrow from this collection of hundreds of titles without using any of their monthly Instant Borrows, and at no cost to libraries. We’ve made assets available on the hoopla Resource Center to make it easy for you to get the word out, both in your library and on your social media pages.

May also means a new edition of the hoopla Graphic Novel Book Club! This quarter’s Spotlight Selection is Sheets, written and drawn by Brenna Thummler, and we’ve curated a list of additional recommendations to accommodate readers of any taste. You can find resources to use for your library’s book club, including a discussion guide and an exclusive author Q&A, on the hoopla Book Club Hub. We hope patrons will read along and share their thoughts with us and each other using the hashtag #hooplaGNBC on social media. This edition of the Graphic Novel Book Club will be active from May 1 through July 31.
